The Ohio State University will play host to the 80th NCAA Men's Gymnastics Championships where Stanford University will seek to become only the second team in history to win five consecutive titles. The first was Nebraska from 1979 - 1983. The two-day competition will feature two qualifying sessions (day 1) and finals (day 2). The team, all-around, and six apparatus winners will be named at the conclusion of night two of competition.

Olympic Implications

The NCAA Championships are the final way for athletes to qualify for the U.S. Championships in Fort Worth, TX (which will serve as the final qualifier for Olympic Trials). According to this document by USA Gymnastics, up to six athletes can qualify for nationals providing that they also place within the top ten overall at the NCAA Championships. This will be a very, very difficult feat to accomplish because the majority (80%) of the 2023 World Championships team were currently competing NCAA athletes.

It is most likely that Fred Richard, Asher Hong, Paul Juda, Khoi Young, Josh Karnes, Taylor Christopulos, and Fuzzy Benas all place within the top ten in the all-around. All of those athletes are pre-qualified to the national championships meaning realistically, there are only three more spots up for grabs, less if Colt Walker also does AA. Athletes are most certainly going to need to put up 80+ to make it into the top 10.

The most likely contenders in no specific order are: -Kam Nelson (OSU) - Sam Phillips (NEB) - Tate Costa (ILL) - Michael Artlip (PSU) -Michael Jaroh (PSU)
