Paris 2024

Two gymnasts are set to represent their countries as flag bearers at 2024 Paris Olympics

Athletes Gear Up for Historic Parade of Nations in Unique Opening Ceremony

July 25, 2024

The 2024 Paris Olympics are set to begin on Friday, July 26, and athletes from around the world are preparing to represent their respective countries in one of the world's most important athletic events. Each flag bearer will be chosen either by the team's National Olympic Committee or by the athletes themselves. The gymnasts chosen by their countries to be flag bearers are:

Dominican Republic: Audrys Nin Reyes

Audrys Nin Reyes is the 2019 and 2023 Pan American Games vault champion. He was the first Dominican gymnast to win a gold medal at the Pan American Games and also the first to win a gold medal at a FIG World Cup.

Iran: Mahdi Olfati

Mahdi Olfati is the 2022 Asian Games vault silver medalist. His podium finish at that competition marked the first time an Iranian gymnast won a medal at the Asian Games. He qualified for the Olympics through his placement on vault in the 2024 FIG World Cup apparatus series.

During the Parade of Nations at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics opening ceremony, athletes and officials from each participating team will march into the Jardins du Trocadéro, preceded by their flag and placard bearers. During the opening ceremony, athletes will take a boat ride from Pont d'Austerlitz to Pont d'Iéna along the Seine River. The 3.7-mile (6 km) route will pass landmarks such as the Louvre, Notre-Dame de Paris, and Place de la Concorde, and will feature cultural presentations.

The 2024 Paris Games opening ceremony will begin at 6 PM local Paris time, which is noon EST.
