The Parallel Bars final concluded today and China’s Zou Jingyuan has become the back-to-back Olympic Champion on the apparatus. Zou was joined on the podium by Ukraine’s Illia Kovtun (silver) and Japan’s Oka Shinnosuke (bronze).

Zou Jingyuan dominated the Parallel Bars field these games, with a consistently large lead over his other competitors. Though two other gymnasts–Kovtun and Arican–also boasted 6.9 difficulty scores, Zou differentiated himself from the rest of the field with his execution. Today, he earned a 9.300 execution score.

Kovtun’s finish earned him Ukraine’s first and only medal in artistic gymnastics at these games. Oka’s bronze here, along with his gold in the High Bar and All Around, were Japan’s only individual medals at these games. Oka walks away from these games with the highest individual medal count.
