What We Learned from Men's Podium Training

October 14, 2026

Neutral Deductions Coverate at the 2026 World Gymnastics Championships is presented by TURN and OZONE.

Subdivision 4 (JPN; USA; GBR;AUS)

The U.S. are having some interesting landings on vault. Pretty rough in many cases tbh.

Joe, Harry, Jake seems to be line-up for the British on FX. Joe was hopping all over the place. Harry stuck the dismount. Jake up next.

Hashimoto off on pommmel horse.

Jake (GBR) bounded out of his triple double. Looks like it stung a bit. Stuck the double double.

GBR PH line up: Joe, Jake, Reuben. So far Joe has looked a little rough. Just looks tired/sick/etc. Not quite sure.

The U.S. looked very incomplete on parallel bars. Also kinda tired/jet lagged/ etc.

Reuben looked quite good on pommels on the set I saw.

Illia Kovtun (CRO) looked solid on floor.

Jesse Moore put in a hlaf set that was good as well.

Ritam Malick did a good first pass but then sat the double arabian on floor

Harry starts off the British on still rings. Looks like he's conserving energy.

Hashimoto does a Kas double but purposefully rolls out.

Doi Ryosuke with a lovely Yurchenko 2.5.

The U.S. seem to be finding their rythm on high bar. It's giong much better than pbars so far.

Oka or Shohei just bailed out of a vault.

Looks like no Kas 2.5 from Hashimoto this week. He's only performed the double.

High bar is looking better for the U.S.

Shinnosuke had one of those YIKES vault landings that he was lucky to walk away from. He was probably less than a foot away from the vault upon landing distance wise.

The British too are having a bit of a rough time on vault which tells me everything I need to know. Like Harry and Courtney both struggling on the half out. Jake at least managed the Yonekura well.

Kam's triple tuck looks pretty well controlled.

Ritam Malick off on horse.

Tru Hagens looked great on horse til the dismount. He's a dark horse for the final.

Jarman fell on the dragulescu.

Spent all of the last sub following the U.S. men on pommels. Dani really struggled. Fred stayed on but had kind of a wierd pause at the opening. Hoopes was solid.

The only other routine I saw that rotation was Kovtun on vault and he tried both Kas 1.5 and Kas doubles.

Reuben looked good on high bar until he lost a grip on the Gienger.

Dani stuck his still rings dismount.

Jake did a good high bar routine from the last half I saw.

Subdivision 3 (COL, HUN, NED, EGY)

Colombia had a rough go on high bar. Just ingeneral now on floor they look very tired. Lots of rolling out of skills.

A handful of solid vaults from the Hungarians.

Loran de Munck (NED) goes through withouth falling. Does nearly come off on the russians, but managed to hold on.

The vault has been giving a LOT of people trouble. SO many lock-legged landings.

Subdivision 2 (UKR, KOR, CYP, WG2)

Was doing interviews through most of the first rotation. Only saw Manukyan on PH. the routine I saw was mainly a semi-dress rehearsal with splite legs.

In interviews, we learned why Tang Chia-Hung is called the Asian Cat King, what injuries that Felix Dolci is nurturing, the goals for Sebastian Sponevik, and more about the Czech heritage of Adam Lakomy and Jack Gagamov. Look for those interviews on our YouTube Channel.

WOWOWOW! Nazar Chepurnyi (UKR) just did a Gorgeous down-the-middle Dragulescu

Rhys McClenaghan with a VERY different routine than we saw at Commonwealth Games. C scissor G flop, Stockli, triple Russian in the middle, magyar sivado, wu, into dismount. Really interesting. His normal coach Luke is not on the floor.

No full routines from the Russians on floor. Dukhno looks very loose and is laughing and looks like he's having a good time.

Rhys McClenaghan was leaving right after finishing his podium training, so we ran to mixed zone to interview him and missed a rotation.

Russians are doing full difficulty on vault.

Subdivision 1 (CAN; BRA; TPE; FRA)

No full routines on FX from the Canadians. Kinda a rough first rotation from everyone except the French on vault who looked pretty good overall.

One of the Irish (James Hickey) athletes has just gone down on vault and was later taken out in a wheelchair. He's being attended to by medical.

Jordan Carroll (CAN) lookked spectactualar on PH. small break into the dismount.

Felix Dolci (CAN) looks off. Not quite sure what's going on today. Struggling with landings across apparatuses.

Adam Lakomy (CZE) also having a rough day with landings. Has sat several. With men's podium training it's sometimes hard to tell what is jet lag/getting used to the equipment vs. What is just a bad day.

The French look overall better than I expected them too. Mansard did a very good Kas 1.5 and a good pommel routine.

Sebastian Sponevik (NOR) did a sky-high handspring double front.

Tang Chia-Hung (TPE) just NAILED high bar from my angle. Granted I'm head-on and can see zero angles, but it was a hit.

Arthur Nory Mariano looks like he's struggling with vault at the moment.
