How to Watch

January 23, 2026
Last week Oklahoma took the lead in NCAA standings in their first meet of the season. With each time having competed at least once, the season is full speed ahead. This week, teams coming off of explosive first meets and teams with slow and study score-building will face off all across the country.
NAVY OPEN
January 24 at 2:00pm ET: Springfield College, William & Mary, and Navy at Navy Open
Springfield, William & Mary, and Navy will be kicking the weekend off at the Navy Open. Springfield and Navy have had a similar start to their season, much closer to their final standings for the 2025 season than the Tribe. William & Mary, on the other hand, is still ramping up for the season. Where they can really gain some traction is in their great vault line-up. It’ll be interesting to see if the Tribe can break 300 this week and catch up to their conference competitors.

Michigan vs. OU (Reigning National Champs vs. Current #1)
January 24 at 2:00 pm ET: Oklahoma at Michigan
Oklahoma came out swinging in their first meet of the season last week, scoring a 323.95, earning them the top spot in the nation. For reference, their average score in the regular season in 2025 was a 325.933. Michigan, on the other hand, is certainly building their scores as the season gets started, coming off of their NCAA championship win in 2025. Looking just at the scores, Oklahoma has a clear advantage. However, Michigan is a team that adds difficulty and cleans up execution over time in the season. At this point in the season, it’s hard to judge how Michigan really stands up against any other team especially considering their star gymnast, Fred Richard hasn't competed yet.

SAM MIKULAK INVITATIONAL
January 24 at 6:00 pm ET: Illinois and Penn State + ELITES at the Sam Mikulak Invitational
Illinois and Penn State will be traveling to the Sam Mikulak Invitational in Sarasota, Fl. to compete alongside EVO elites. Penn State has had a pretty solid start to the season and is coming off of a stellar finish to the NCAA season. Illinois is in a bit of a rebuilding year, with loss of major contributors and alum-turned-coach Connor McCool. This meet will be especially fun, as former Penn State stand-out Josh Karnes will be competing for EVO. 2025 World Pommel Horse bronze medalist Patty Hoopes will also be competing. Even though his scores won’t matter for NCAA purposes, it will be exciting to watch him face off against Illinois’ star pommel worker Brandon Dang. Notably 2020 Olympian and 2024 Olympic Alternate, Shane Wiskus will be returning to competition following inury.

Stanford Open
January 24 at 7:00 pm PT: Cal, Ohio State, and Stanford at the Stanford Open
To close out the weekend, Cal, Ohio State, and Stanford will all be competing at the Stanford Open. Currently ranked second in the NCAA, Stanford is the favorite to win by the numbers. That said, it’s important to keep in mind that Stanford often fields a second team at the Stanford Open and last year, Ohio State brough a major upset taking the win. Depending on the distribution of athletes amongst two teams, scores may not look exactly as expected based on last week’s performance.
