Preview of Week 4 of the 2024 NCAA Season

The 2024 NCAA season continues with another exciting week of collegiate gymnastics. The Oklahoma Sooners blew all previous 2024 scores away with a massive 420.350 at the Rocky Mountain Open. Stanford will look to take back the top spot in their rematch against Cal. The Stanford Open will also serve as the final qualifier for Winter Cup.

No. 12 Army vs. No. 13 Springfield
Army and Springfield will meet for the second time this season. Evenly matched on floor, vault,and parallel bars, Army has the edge over Springfield with a stronger line-up on pommel horse, still rings. and high bar. Freshman, Peyton Cramer remains one to watch. Named ECAC Rookie of the Week, Cramer is currently ranked 6th in the nation on Pommel Horse. Last week against Michigan, Army didn't field an all-around gymnast but if Jaden Blank competes all-events, the showdown for the title with Springfield's Sam Kaplan will be one to watch!

No. 8 Navy vs. No. 15 William & Mary
Navy is comping off an impressive second place finish at the Navy Open and will look to capitlize on that momentum as they host #15 William & Mary. While Isaiah Drake and Syam Buradagunta are gymnasts to watch, William & Mary's Same Lee also put in strong performances this past week on vault and parallel bars.

Stanford Open
Stanford and Cal will have a rematch in Week 4 of the season at Stanford. The Cardinals easily won the dual meet and are expected to win this weekend as well. The Stanford Open will also serve as the final Winter Cup qualifier. Ian Gunther (Stanford), Brandon Nguyen (Stanford), Noah Newfeld (Cal), Chase Davenport-Mills (Ohio State), and Wade Nelson (SCATS) will likely be trying to earn an AA spot through the competition.
Based on competitions this year, Mark Berlaga (Stanford - Still Rings), Parker Thackston (Ohio State - Pommel Horse), Brandon Nguyen (Stanford - High Bar), and JR Chou (Stanford - Pommel Horse) will have the oppotunity to petition through D score should they compete the required difficulty score this weekend.

No. 5 Illinois vs. No. 1 Oklahoma
The most electric match-up of the week will be hosted in Chapmaign, Illinois. And invigorated #1 ranked Oklahoma will look to keep their undefeated streak in 2024 alive as Illinois will seek a win in their home opener. Both teams are coming off banner weeks having swept the all-around and event titles in week 3. Should the Sooners repeat a similar performance to last week, they will have the edge in all titles except still rings where reigning national champ (Ashton Anaya) would come out on top.
The meet will take place Sunday, Jan 28 at 4:00 pm CT - Champaign, Il. The meet will be streamed on the Big Ten Network and Live States Will be available. All links can be found here.
