Hashimoto Daiki won his fourth straight all-around title at the 78th All-Japan Gymnastics Championships - this time winning by almost four points. There were no changes to the top three in the all-around from day one to day two of competition where Oka Shinnosuke captured his first all-around medal - silver. Dr. Kaya Kazuma - a veteran within the Japanese team - took bronze.
While there were no changes to the top three overall in competition, Sugino Takaaki's 86.133 on day two of competition was bested only by Hashimoto. Thirty gymnasts in total, including the four aforementioned athletes, will compete at the NHK Cup May 16 - 19. The Olympic Team will be selected based on results from the All-Japan Championships and the results from the NHK Cup.
Hashimoto Daiki has already secured his spot on the 2024 Paris Olympic Team by winning the all-around competition at the 2023 World Gymnastics Championships. Based on results from the All-Japan Championships and barring injury, Oka Shinnosuke should be considered a lock for the team. However, after those two athlete, the competition will come down to final performancs in May.
